Was I Impressed By The Jura Ena 5 Automatic Espresso Machine
In the search for the perfect Automatic Espresso machine, I have decided to look into and review the Jura Ena 5 Automatic Espresso Machine. A friend of mine has a Jura machine, and I must say I have been very impressed with the countless cups of beautifully brewed coffee that she puts in front of me day after day. If I had $1200 dollars on me today, after doing my research, I would probably order a Jura Ena 5 right now. Lets see why…
The ENA Range
Jura, or Jura Capresso, as they are also known is a well established Swiss espresso and coffee machine producing company who have been producing quality products since 1931. Since then they have won many awards for the design and performance of their machines.
The ENA range are the lower priced range of automatic coffee centers. Don’t worry though, they certainly do include some very professional and quality features, that many other fully automatic espresso machines in this price range do not have.
The ENA 5 is the deluxe model in the ENA range. It looks fantastic, yet sleek and modern and is one of the slimmest automatic espresso machines on the market today. Pleasing on the eye, it will look stylish in any kitchen or office.
An Automatic Espresso Machine Should Be Easy To Use
Well it should, shouldn’t it? That is why we buy them. Often time poor, with kids running around, errands to run etc, some days you want a decent coffee and you want it quickly. Now while some baristas shake their head or “tut tut” the whole concept of automatic espresso machines, it must be said, that with current technology and design features that are being incorporated into the latest espresso machines, it is possible to get a good tasting cup of espresso or coffee from and automatic espresso machine, quickly and easily.
The Jura ENA 5 is no exception. This espresso machine contains some professional quality parts that all combine to make a decent cup of coffee, and some days that is all we need right?
One Button Brew
At the press of one button, this machine will grind, tamp, brew and clean itself, and all in under 60 seconds. This one button is actually a rotary dial system that once you work out how to use it, by following the easy to read LCD screen, it becomes super easy to get the perfect coffee for any taste. You can pre-program all of your regularly used settings. However, even with the pre-programming in place, you can always override the cup size whilst brewing, just for those days where you might need “a little more”.
Just about every variable is customizable. You can vary the coffee strength, the temperature and amount of coffee being poured. This last feature is very hand as just about every cup is a different size and it can be embarrasing if you have a lesser machine and you brew a coffee that only half fills your guest’s cup.
Users of the ENA 5 are very impressed and grateful for the self cleaning system. It makes it overall a very low maintenance machine.
Professional Espresso Machine Features For Quality Tasting Brews
If you like your coffee to be brewed quickly and on time, then the stainless steel lined thermoblock will ensure that your machine heats up for a fast brew. Not only that, but it ensures that you will get continuous and consistent use from the machine.
In order to get the best tasting espresso beverage from an espresso machine, a good delivery of constat pressure is required to force the near boiling water effectively through the tightly packed coffee grounds. At a minimum, 9 to 10 bars of pressure is required to get this right. Well, the ENA 5 delivers 18 bars of pressure to ensure that you will always get the best flavor in your brew everytime.
There is a conical steel burr grinder which is fully adjustable with 5 fineness settings. It grinds the beans just before brewing, keeping the taste fresh, aromatic and full of flavor. It is important to be able to adjust your grinder because of the huge variety of beans now available to regular everyday consumers. Dependant on whether they are oily beans or dry beans, will depend on the setting required to grind the beans.
Froth Your Milk 2 Ways
An unexpected inclusion on the Jura ENA 5 Automatic Espresso Machine is the ability to choose from two different ways to froth milk. There is a traditional frothing system, via the Dual Frother Plus, for those of us who want to do a bit of creative barista work.
Then there is the frothXpress system which steams or froths milk automatically into your cup. This is a really handy timesaving feature and is also great if you are making a batch of brews at once.
The ENA 5 Tells You Everything You Need To Know
The LCD screen displays text which is easy to read and follow. It constantly gives the user information on the status of the machine, such as low water, low beans, when to descale, when to empty the beans container etc. You really don’t have to think at all when using this machine as it does it all for you.
Sleek and Modern Design, With A Choice Of Colors
The size of the ENA 5, at 17″ x 9″ x 14″, makes this machine one of the slimmest espresso machines on the market today. At this size it certainly
won’t crowd your kitchen or office space.
The other nice thing is that there is a choice of colors. Whilst the Top and front are finished in a modern platinum metallic with chrome and stainless steel accents, the side and back panels come in 3 different colors. There is blossom white, ristretto black, and coffee cherry red to choose from. If you have a color theme going on in your kitchen or office, you can now choose the perfect colored espresso machine to match.
A Few Extra Features… Decaf Or A Cup Of Tea?
So you may not feel like a shot of pure caffeine, but need a hot drink. If you want to brew a decaf, then there is a pre-ground coffee funnel for easy and quick brewing.

Any Negatives?
It seems that a few users have had some problems with the frothing wand coming off. This appears to be a user error, not a machine error. To overcome this from happening you really just need to make sure that you clean the frothing wand thoroughy after each use. To make it even easier, there are some great products available to assist with this. Other than that, no other major problems seem to have been encountered by users of the Jura ENA 5.
